ORLANDO, FL (February 12, 2015) – Tijuana Flats Tex-Mex Fast Casual restaurant will now be the first to use an environmentally friendly foam cup made by WinCup, Inc. WinCup offers the new Vio Cup as the first expandable polystyrene (EPS) foam cup on the market shown to biodegrade* due to a special additive ingredient used to produce the cups. WinCup performed three years of experimentation and tests were approved and certified by the American Society for Testing and Materials to show biodegradation. Additionally, the initial production of foam consumes less energy, contributes less solid waste, and emits fewer greenhouse gases compared to that of paper products. The new Vio cup is insulated, versatile, light weight and both leak and moisture resistance. The restaurants will also be utilizing WinCup’s biodegradable* lids and straws.
“Tijuana Flats is committed to ensuring eco-friendly and environmentally safe products. This is only one addition that we have made this year that helps us achieve this goal for our guests”, stated Brad Kaemmer, Chief Executive Offer for the restaurant chain. Tijuana Flats restaurants already touts the use of LED lighting, Energy Star rated tankless water heaters, water saving toilets that meet the EPA WaterSense criteria, Zero VOC paint certified by Greenguard Gold for low chemical emissions, Energy Star rated steamer and so much more.
*Vio Cups have been shown to biodegrade 84.3% after 1,154 days under conditions that simulate a wetter, biologically active landfill, using the ASTM D5511-11 test. Note that stated rate and extent of degradation do not mean that the product will continue to decompose
