THE TIJUANA FLATS JUST IN QUESO FOUNDATION KICKS OFF 9TH YEAR OF PARTNERSHIP WITH BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION
— Over $650,000 Donated to BCRF to Find a Cure for Breast Cancer —
On Tuesday, September 8th, Tijuana Flats will kick off its 9th annual fundraiser to raise money for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Since 2007, the Tijuana Flats Just In Queso Foundation has donated $657,983 to BCRF through the sale of Tijuana Flats’ hot sauce and customer donations.
Through the partnership with BCRF, Tijuana Flats funded a full year of research for Dr. Joyce Slingerland of the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Slingerand serves as the Director of the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute, Associate Director for Translational Medicine at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Slingerland’s project focuses on the cellular origins of breast cancer and potential links between lifestyle factors (like obesity) and breast cancer.
Through Sunday, September 27th, all Tijuana Flats locations will sell six different bottles of hot sauce to benefit BCRF. Additionally, Tijuana Flats will offer a “make it pink” tortilla option for tacos and a commemorative cup available for a $1 donation to combat breast cancer. Restaurants will also feature a “pink” window for guests to sign in recognition of a friend, family member or own personal battle with breast cancer.

About the Breast Cancer Research Foundation
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) advances the world’s most promising research to eradicate breast cancer. Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, BCRF has raised more than $550 million to fuel discoveries in tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment, survivorship and metastasis, making it one of the largest non-governmental funders of breast cancer research in the world. This year, BCRF is investing $58.6 million in research, to support 226 researchers at leading medical institutions across six continents, including $11.6 million to the international Evelyn H. Lauder Founder’s Fund focused on metastasis. By spending 91 cents of every dollar on research and public awareness programs, BCRF remains one of the nation’s most fiscally responsible nonprofits. BCRF is the only breast cancer organization with an “A+” from CharityWatch, and has been awarded Charity Navigator’s highest rating of four stars 13 times since 2002.
